Similar to the questions raised by the boundaries of heaven and hell, the boundaries of will question the notion of freedom itself. God says, in respect to Satan, "whose fault? / Whose but his own? / ingrate, he had of mee / All he could have; I made him just and right, / Sufficient to have stood, though free to fall" (III, 99). What is freedom? Are you really free if you can fall? Are you free if you do not have the choice to fall? Does freedom consist of boundaries or the lack thereof? Does freedom even exist? The sense of boundary seems to be an integral question when related to freedom and thus absolutely an integral notion to this poem.
